Anirudh Patel has been selected as the 2026 Julian Schwinger Fellow! The Julian Schwinger Fellowship, supported by the generosity of the Julian Schwinger Foundation, is in honor of Julian Schwinger’s time at Columbia as a theoretical physics doctoral student in the Department of Physics, under the guidance of statesman and scientist I. I. Rabi.
Anirudh began his doctoral studies at Columbia University in 2022. He is currently a member of the Theoretical High Energy Astrophysics group under the guidance of Professor Brian Metzger. His research has contributed to understanding the astrophysical origins and radiative signatures of elements produced through the rapid neutron capture process (r-process). More broadly, he is interested in the microphysics underlying extreme phenomena and how they manifest in observable properties, including transient and multi-messenger signatures.
Congratulations Ani!
