"Resurgence and Nonperturbative Physics" with Dr. Gerald Dunne, Professor of Physics at the University of Connecticut

Abstract:
The application to physics of the modern mathematical theory of resurgent asymptotics has revealed a vast world of new relations connecting perturbative and nonperturbative physics. The main motivation in my work is to find new ways to compute using the quantum field theory path integral, by developing new methods to analytically continue between perturbation theory and nonperturbative methods such as semiclassical expansions and lattice gauge theory. This talk will introduce the key ideas underlying resurgence, illustrated with examples from optics, quantum mechanics, matrix models and quantum field theory.
