Speaker: Ella Marushchenko of Ella Maru Studio
Title: "Designing Effective Visuals for Research Communication"
Abstract: Ella Marushchenko is the founder and art director of Ella Maru Studio, where she works with researchers to design scientific figures, journal covers, and animations. In this seminar, she will share practical tips for making research visuals clearer and easier to understand: how to simplify without losing meaning, how to structure a figure so the main message is obvious, and how to handle labels, fonts, color, and resolution. She will also discuss software that scientists can use to develop their own figures and cover images, including common vector and 3D tools and when each is the best choice. The talk includes real examples from collaborations with physics groups, including a step-by-step walkthrough of how a cover image is developed from the first sketch to the final published cover.
