Title: "When Discovery Meets the Deadline"

Abstract: Science and journalism are traditionally distinct. What does it look like, then, when a trained scientist becomes a journalist? The media plays a central role in translating complex scientific developments into knowledge that is digestible for the general public -- and that, in turn, influences science literacy and trust. This talk will explore the function of science journalism, where it fits in the broader "scicomm" ecosystem and what it means to approach the craft from a scientific background. It will include practical tips for interacting with journalists as a scientist, as well as strategies for engaging in your own science communication.
