"Superconductivity and the Quantum Many Body Problem"

Abstract: Since its discovery in 1911 in the lab of Heike Kamerlingh-Onnes, superconductivity has been of continuing scientific and practical interest. After a rapid review of the history and  basic physics of the phenomenon, this talk will discuss the status of our current understanding of the mechanisms  causing superconductivity in different material systems, the limits on transition temperatures, and the implications for our developing understanding of electronic structure and dynamics in quantum materials.
