Inventing the Future: Zero Carbon Fuels and Climate Restoration

November 22, 2019
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
America/New_York
Faculty House, 64 Morningside Dr., New York, NY 10027 Seminar Room 1
Join the Center on Global Energy Policy and Columbia University’s Earth Institute for a discussion with David Keith, PhD, Professor of Applied Physics at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Professor of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. The presentation will focus on carbon neutral synthetic fuels. Following his presentation, Dr. Keith will join Julio Friedmann, PhD, Senior Research Scholar for a moderated conversation including solar geoengineering, CO2 removal, and approaches to rapid and profound decarbonization. Dr. Keith is one of the most accomplished and controversial scientists of his generation, working at the intersection of climate science, energy technology, and public policy for twenty-five years. In addition to his dual appointment at Harvard, he is founder of Carbon Engineering, a company developing “ambient air capture” - technology to capture CO2 from the air to make carbon-neutral fuels or provide CO2 removal services. Perhaps best known for his work on the science, technology, and public policy of solar geoengineering, David led the development of Harvard’s Solar Geoengineering Research Program, a Harvard-wide interfaculty research initiative. His accolades include first prize in Canada's national physics prize exam, won MIT's prize for excellence in experimental physics, and was one of TIME magazine's Heroes of the Environment.
