The Ukrainian Film Club of Columbia University will screen the war drama Sniper: The White Raven (2022) by director Marian Bushan. Yuri Shevchuk will introduce the film and lead the post-screening discussion.

After suffering a senseless tragedy at the hands of invading Russians in the Donbas region of Ukraine in 2014, a former Ukrainian physics teacher renounces his peaceful way of life and seeks revenge. Upon joining the military and earning a coveted spot as a sniper, he sets his sights on an elite Russian sniper whose elimination could change the tide of the conflict. The war drama was inspired by a real-life story of Mykola Voronyn, a pacifist from the city of Horlivka, currently under Russian occupation, who turned into a professional and deadly efficient soldier defending his homeland against Russian aggression. This riveting war drama is Marian Bushan’s debut as a narrative feature director.

This is the first Ukrainian feature narrative film theatrically released nationally and internationally since the outbreak of a full-scale Russian aggression on February 24, 2022.

The film is with English dubbing.
