Who: Dr. Elmer Guardado-Sanchez, former Harvard postdoc fellow and current physicist at Logiqal

What: “Neutral Atom Quantum Computing with Ytterbium”

Abstract: Neutral atom arrays are a leading platform for quantum computing, offering identical qubits, reconfigurable connectivity, and a clear path to scaling. I will discuss how ytterbium-171, with its two-electron structure and long-lived metastable states, enables two key architectural advantages: the conversion of dominant gate errors into easily correctable erasure errors, and a telecom-wavelength photonic interface for connecting modular quantum processors at scale. Together, these capabilities address the two most important challenges on the path to useful fault-tolerant quantum computing.
