Lin is a researcher in quantum physics. During his PhD at Harvard University, he developed a quantum gas microscope to study long-range interacting atoms, investigating phenomena such as spontaneous symmetry breaking and topological many-body phases in extended Hubbard models, as well as spin models, including super- and sub-radiance. As an undergraduate at the University of Chicago, he contributed to the development of a hybrid quantum system combining a millimeter-wave superconducting cavity with cold atoms. Lin is currently conducting research on ultra-cold molecules at Columbia University.
