October 11, 2024

Columbia University is delighted at the news that Japanese grass-roots organization Nihon Hidankyo, a group of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, have won the Nobel Peace Prize. Nihon Hidankyo, has dedicated their work to spearheading global opposition to the utilization of nuclear weapons through facilitating educational campaigns about the impact of nuclear arms.

In 2018, Mr. Shigeaki Mori, a survivor of the nuclear attack on Hiroshima, visited the Columbia University physics department along with a Japanese delegation to hear about the contributions of Columbia University in the genesis of the atomic bomb. Mr. Mori is a lifetime researcher into the lives of American soldiers who perished when being held as prisoners of war in Hiroshima at the time of the bombing.
